The Calathea finds its origin in the tropical rainforests of South America, particularly in Brazil. This green beauty thrives there under the dense canopy of this ecosystem. It belongs to the Marantaceae family and is renowned for its striking leaves.

Characteristics

The Calathea is an attractive house plant known for its lush, large round leaves. These leaves have a beautiful pattern of various shades of green, with a purple hue on the underside. It is a low-growing plant that rarely grows taller than 60 cm. The plant is just as striking when not in bloom, with small white or pink flowers appearing in the summer.

Care

Caring for the Calathea requires some attention. The plant prefers a location with indirect light, and it’s important to prevent it from receiving direct sunlight. In addition, the plant craves high humidity, similar to its original, tropical environment. As for watering, the Calathea ‘Medallion’ likes slightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering. It’s advisable to regularly check the plant and ensure that there’s no excess water standing in the pot. Also, it’s recommended to routinely wipe the leaves with tepid water to remove dust and to increase.
