Origin

The Anthurium’ is a plant species that originally comes from the humid rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador in South America. The plant belongs to the family of the Araceae, also known as the Arum family. The Anthurium is specifically named after Édouard François André, a French botanist who brought different types of anthuriums to Europe in the 19th century.

Characteristics

The Anthurium’ is renowned for its impressive, heart-shaped leaves that shine in the light. The plant also produces striking flowers, also known as spathes, which can be a vivid red or pink in colour. These flowers are surrounded by a green bract. The Anthurium can grow up to approximately 60 centimetres tall and blooms throughout the year, peaking in the summer months.

Care

For the optimum growth and flowering of the Anthurium , it’s important to mimic the conditions of its original habitat. The plant enjoys a warm spot with plenty of indirect light and high air humidity. The soil should be well-drained and the plant should be watered regularly, but must not stand in water. During the spring and summer, you can supplement the plant once a month with a general liquid houseplant feed.
